Description: Kaiser Permanente is in need of ED Technician I ( Job Number: 184183 ) right now, this occupation will be assigned in Hawaii. Under direct supervision of registered nurse or provider, performs variety of technical, semi-technical, clerical and patient attending duties, participates in inst! ruction of patients and family members and works cooperatively with staff and other departments. Assists nursing supervisor in orienting, training, coaching, mentoring, and evaluating emergency department tech staff; works with nursing supervisor and appropriate staff to implement training and monitoring measurements. Participates in committees and/or department processes to design, plan, coordinate and implement improvements.

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes and maintains open communication; relays pertinent information to staff members in own department or other departments; assures information is accurate and complete
  • Reports and records vital signs, tests, procedures and pertinent data and observations related to patient care duties within scope of practice
  • Administers approved medications and treatments to patients in accordance with guidelines, policies and procedures, and as delegated by nursing supervisor and ordered by! practitioner with prescriptive authority
  • Provides wr! itten instructions and/or educational materials to patients and family members; reinforces written materials provided by privileged practitioner or registered nurse
  • Transports patients, equipment and supplies from one location to another; assists with lifting as needed
  • Performs chest compressions in cardiac arrests
  • Maintains clean, safe and well equipped environment for patients and staff
  • Utilizes universal precautions during patient care and related activities; maintains awareness of infection control and emergency preparedness procedures
  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies; assures that emergency equipment and supply inventories are maintained and available for use
  • Participates in staff meetings regularly; participates in projects as requested
  • Works with nursing supervisor and appropriate staff to implement training and monitoring measurements; assists in orienting, training, coaching and mentor! ing of emergency department tech staff; assists nursing supervisor in monitoring and evaluating tech staff performance
  • Participates in committees and/or department processes to design, plan, coordinate and implement improvements; identifies and resolves issues related to department processes; recommends improvement ideas and suggestions; collaborates with others to implement department processes
  • Assembles decontamination equipment and participates in disaster procedures as assigned by Incident Commander
  • Practices within organizational, departmental and Emergency Services specific standards, policies, procedures, processes, protocols or guidelines; practices in accordance with departmental scope of service and Emergency Department Tech scope of practice; works as part of the health care team
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one-year of emergency services experience or related background and exp! erience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Compl! etion of course in basic cardiology or EKG
  • Completion of basic pharmacology course and training as Mobile Intensive Care Technician (MICT or EMT-P), Army Medical Specialist, Navy Corpsman or nursing student who has completed one or more semesters of an accredited registered nursing program with clinical coursework and practicum
  • Completion of training in one or more: Intermediate or Advanced EKG, 12 Lead EKG, or Drugs and Electrolytes
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association
  • Knowledge of and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, teamwork, and written communication
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions
  • ! Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of Emergency Nurses' Association sponsored courses: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (NPC)
  • Completion of American Heart Association courses: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Completion of Intermediate, Advanced, or 12-Lead EKG course
