Assistant or Associate Professor (Pediatrics)

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide and adhere to high-quality pediatric educational experience that achieves both departmental and medical school expectations, guidelines, and timelines according to accreditation standards guide; develop, implement, and evaluate a set of educational objectives for students ensuring that the objectives correspond with the department’s and medical school’s objectives and revise as needed.

Ensure that faculty and residents are familiar with the educational objectives of the clerkship and are prepared for their roles in teaching and evaluation.

Set expectations, roles, and responsibilities for medical student involvement in patient care activities.

Identify students with academic difficulty and develop a strategy for remediation.

Mentor medical students, interns, residents, and clinician-educator faculty.

Develop, review, and update, as n! eeded, a set of educational objectives for students ensuring t! hat the objectives correspond with the department’s and medical school’s objectives.

Generate reports on an as-needed basis regarding faculty and resident teaching evaluations.

Perform other duties necessary to maintain a high-quality educational experience and to comply with regulatory and accreditation bodies, such as the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

Other scholarly duties as assigned.

Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications

MD or DO degree or equivalent medical degree from a medical or osteopathic school of recognized standing.

Board certified (within 7 years) or qualified to become certified (or the equivalent) in Pediatrics is required.

Must have or be eligible for Hawaii medical license.

Proven ability in teaching and program administration. Evidence of effective research, scholarly activity, or clinical administration.

Familiarity with curriculum development and ! evaluation.

Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.

Ability to serve as role model for trainees and junior colleagues.

Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.

Evidence of excellent team building and interpersonal skills.

Experience functioning in a complex system of multiple organizations and stakeholders.

Familiar with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and HIPAA policies and continuing Medical Education (CME) policies and procedures.

Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications

MD or DO degree or equivalent medical degree from a medical or osteopathic school of recognized standing.

Board certified by American Board of Medical Specialties in Pediatrics or its equivalent.

Must have or be eligible for Hawaii medical license.

Four years in the rank of Assistant Professor or ! two years in the rank of Associate Professor.

Candidate not ap! plying from the assistant professor rank should have seven or more years of post-doctoral experience in a recognized medical school or major medical research/scholarship institution.

Evidence in teaching and program administration.

Evidence of skill in tutoring and delivery of lectures and conference/colloquia, and expertise as a resource person is expected.

Evidence of research/scholarship, including significant participation in peer-reviewed research.

Clear recognition as a scholar/clinician among peers at the local, regional, and/or national levels.

Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation.

Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.

Ability to serve as role model for trainees and junior colleagues.

Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.

Evidence of excellent team building and interpersonal skills.

Experience functioning in a complex sys! tem of multiple organizations and stakeholders.
